Black pumps are like the little black dress -- every girl's gotta have 'em. They're always classic, always the best fall-back shoe and in my case, the only night club shoe I've ever had. (Back when I used to party, it was even harder to find decent shoes than it is now.)
I must have told the story behind getting these heels about 100 times, because when I attempted to tell it to my bestie, she said, "I know this one" and finished the rest of it. So for those of you who haven't heard the story, here goes:
I needed a black pump because I knew it was about to become an essential for several important upcoming events -- high school graduation, prom, weddings and other special occasions. I visited every shoe store I could think of and wasn't able to find anything that fit. Eventually, I gave in and decided to go to a specialty shoe store that carried small sizes. I found a great pair, but being a specialty shoe, they cost me $400. Not ideal.
A few days later, I happened to stop in a Payless ShoeSource and found the most perfect black pumps. They had a not-too-high heel, a toe shape that was a mix between pointy and round and a patent leather material that gave them a shiny finish (super easy to clean, which I later learned was a pretty important feature since your feet get stepped on a lot at clubs where sloppy drunks are dancing too close to you). Long story short, I bought them for around $30 and returned the $400 pair. A huge relief. I still wear them today (albeit with an insole), but I definitely got my money's worth!
Although, I have to admit that I'm a little sad closed-toe shoes are starting to appear again. Winter is coming.
