After I graduated from university in 2009, I backpacked across Europe for nine weeks with one of my closest friends and uni roommate, Kaylie. I thought I'd be wearing running shoes while touring the 22 cities we visited. But it was summer and therefore way too hot to wear anything with a closed toe. I ended up having to wear the only pair of sandals that didn't hurt my feet after hours of walking. Since they were cheap and only supposed to be my shower shoes, they completely fell apart. So by the time we hit the middle of our trip, I desperately needed new ones. We found a little shop in Prague that had decent shoes at great prices. Here's me wearing them in Paris:
These sandals are primarily made of a soft leather, so naturally, they stretched. The strap across the back got so loose the shoes became unwearable. But I eventually decided to cut the straps off, turning them into the perfect pair of weekend slip-ons -- and it only took me six years to figure it out. Now I wear them all the time.
