Tap into this

Writer's picture: Jordana RachelJordana Rachel

My tap shoes are by far the coolest shoes I own -- maybe not for their looks, but certainly for their sounds. Capezio makes exceptional-quality tap shoes (and dance shoes) that last for years. Best of all, they come in a wide variety of sizes because they must be suitable for adults and children alike.

I have been tap dancing since I was five years old, and 22 years later, I still have so much passion for the art form. My tap shoes bring back such wonderful childhood memories, so nostalgia plays a large role in why I love these shoes so much. And now, I pass this love on to the kids I teach, which leads me to why I'm posting this today of all days.

It was Day 1 of the ViBE 2014 Dance Recitals. I've been dancing at the studio since it's inception and have been teaching many of the same students for many consecutive years. It brings me so much pride and joy to watch them up on stage after a year's worth of hard work, especially because tap is definitely not easy. To master such intricate movements and sounds, it takes a lot of concentration, determination and practice. My students continue to amaze and surprise me year after year with all they accomplish.

I also got the chance to perform a tap number with some of my fellow teachers and friends, which is always a ton of fun. It's a skill we're all so proud to have and it's such a privilege to be able to perform in front of an audience and our students, who we hope to inspire. Thanks to ViBE's owners and artistic directors, Marnie and Rena Schwartz, as well as our awesome teacher, Debra Glaser, we get the incredible opportunity to do what we love each year.
